Sermon on 4 August 2024 by Pastor Paul
Romans 12:9-13
[9] Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. [10] Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; [11] not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; [12] rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; [13] distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.
JESUS is the great high priest. He never stops praying for us.
Hebrew 4:14
[14] So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe.
Hebrew 7:25
[25] Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.
We are called and chosen to pray, for we are GOD'S royal priesthood.
1 Peter 2:9
[9] But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
Common misconception of prayer:
[1] Prayer is a channel where I can transact with GOD
Example: "GOD if I come to church regularly, bless me to achieve very good results"
[2] Prayer is a channel where I can seek for material blessings
Example: "GOD bless me with more wealth"
What prayer is:
Prayer is not a transaction with GOD, Prayer is a relationship with GOD.
Prayer:
1. Aligning ourselves with GOD (Matthew 26:39)
2. Giving thanks to GOD (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
3. Humbling & trusting in GOD (Psalm 20:7 & James 4:10)
4. Seeking GOD & his kingdom (Matthew 6:25-33)
5. Living holy & righteously (The Lord's prayer)
6. Keeping watch (Matthew 26:41 & 1 Peter 5:8)
7. Making supplication & requests to GOD (Philippians 4:6 & Matthew 7:7)
